Cards Of Darkness Blog

Today marked the end of a 12 month expedition. Me and three other brave souls were faced with task of attempting to colonize foreign land and bring riches and resources back to the motherland. Even though this mission seems pretty straight forward, it quickly became stressful and frustrating. Each member in our crew had their own view on how we should treat the natives, use our resources, get resources and simply run things, which made it really difficult to settle on somewhat simple topics. We faced adversity and even though our expedition wasn't the most successful, we learned many valuable lessons that will hopefully lead us to more successful expeditions. Our expedition went as follows.
From the start we decided to establish our dominance by pressing the natives for supplies that we so desperately wanted and needed. For the first couple of months the natives were relatively cooperative and catered to our requests without much riot. Our greed for resources made us to continue to harass the natives for many months. However, after many months of continual force  on the natives, they began to become more and more hostile and less cooperative. Once the hostility began to escalate quickly we decided to try and find another, more honorable way of  getting resources. However, it was too late. The natives weren't happy with us and kept becoming more violent, so the only choice we had was to offer them some of our supplies as a sign of truce. After this the natives began to settle down a bit but we were still in the gutter. By this time we had been here for 6 months, half done with our attempt to colonize the land and we had nothing to show for it. But that wasn't going to stop us. We still had 6 more months left till our expedition was over and we were going to try and make the best of it. All was going smoothly for a couple of months, the natives weren't attacking us and the weather was calm. We had only made a small profit since we had to keep bribing the natives to leave us alone. The end of our trip when we were hit by a devastating tsunami. The tsunami wiped us of all the profit we had made and left us with nothing. We had to return to the motherland with nothing to show of our 12 month expedition. We are now on the S.S. DONES and should be arriving any day now. I’ve learned many things on this expedition. Establishing peaceful relations is much more promising in the long run than those of hostile relations. Our greed for power and resources was our biggest downfall and on my next expedition I will be sure to focus on long term factors that will help achieve a successful expedition rather than focus on solutions to short term problems. I’m grateful for the experiences I've had in this expedition but I am glad its finally over.
